2 Months Old!

Little Elise,

So much has happened since we brought you home. At your 2 week check-up you were in the 50th percentile across the board with your weight at 8.2lbs, your height at 20 1/4", and head circumference at 35 1/2 cm. You were on a pretty consistent schedule eating every 2.5-3 hours and napping after 30 minutes of mommy and me playtime. We started taking you out and about almost immediately and your first big adventure was big sister Ella's swim practice just a couple days after we got home from the hospital. You pretty much slept through those first few weeks, but we loved spending endless hours just staring at your perfect little features. We fell more in love with you every single day. The first week of August I had my first interview for a Kindergarten teaching position at Top of the World Elementary School in Laguna Beach. After working part-time in Laguna for 3 years, I couldn't pass up the opportunity. The timing was far from perfect given how little you were and I'm pretty confident I was the only one interviewing still wearing pads from childbirth and pumping in the car :) I was thrilled to get the job but also very much in denial about how devastating it would be to leave you. When I went back to work with Ella she was 3 months old and that was insanely difficult at first, so I knew that working with a 5-6 week old was going to seem impossible. As hard as it was, we both have adjusted very well and now are in a solid routine. I have to constantly remind myself to look at the big picture and now both you and Ella will get to go to school in the best district in Orange County and I'll never have to miss a school event because I will always be there with both of you :) We are also beyond blessed to have Gisela, the best nanny in the world! She was recommended to us by my dear friend, Jennifer, and loves you like a second mommy. She is with you from 8am-3:30pm and you are just waking up when I get home. It's so nice to know that you get to sleep in your own bed and spend your days in your own home. When I arrive, you are usually in the swing and when you hear the door open you get an ear-to-ear gummy grin that makes my entire day! These amazing smiles started just after you were one month old and you will smile for almost anyone so you make friends everywhere we go. Most people think you look completely different from your sister since you have dark hair, but close friends and family know that Ella had dark hair for her first year of life too. Sometimes I think you two look identical and other times totally different. You just change so much every day.

On August 28th we went to your six week check-up and you were in the 50th percentile for weight (9.15lbs), 70-75th percentile for height (21 3/4"), and 90th for head circumference (38 3/4cm). We would put you down at night around 8pm and you would wake up to feed around 1am and 4am. Daddy would feed you so mommy could pump. Even though you're a little angel and always go right back to sleep, the mornings were so difficult because your dad and I were completely exhausted. Working full-time with a newborn who's not sleeping through the night takes it toll after a while. That being said, on Sept. 24th (10 weeks old), you slept 9 hours straight and have been a rock star ever since! You are a great sleeper, just like your sister was. Ella actually gets up more than you do now (she always has to use the potty)!

You have the best personality of any baby I know and are so easy going! At just 2 months old you've been to the OC Fair, Disneyland, Zoomars, Buccaneer Cove Water Park, Balboa Bay Club, numerous restaurants, malls, and of course, the beach. You really are all smiles unless you're in the car. Then you are my little screamer. You scream the entire car ride no matter where we are going, it's awful. You could be in a dead sleep and the second I lock your car seat in place, it's as if the world is ending. The most heartbreaking part is that now you cry real tears :( I'm going to buy some toys today to dangle in front of you so maybe that will help. On the weekends I sit in the back with you and then you are happy as can be, go figure!

At your 10 week check-up you were 52nd percentile for weight (11.3lbs), 60th percentile for height at 22 1/2" (not sure if the last check-up was accurate), and 75th percentile for head circumference (39cm). Every time we visit the doctor she mentions how strong your head and neck are. You were able to bear weight on your legs at 1 week old and the doctor swears that you'll be crawling super early which would be really awesome since your sister never did :) Daddy already thinks you're his little athlete and wants to buy you a surfboard for Christmas! You love your big sister more than anything and kick your feet like crazy whenever she's in front of you. Ella always ask to put you in the bjorn in the family room so she can dance in front of you and make you laugh. I desperately need to get this on video because it's priceless.

I love you so much, it really does hurt. I look at you and just cry tears of joy on a weekly basis. I honestly didn't know this much love was possible. I still let you sleep in bed with us since I miss you so much during the day but I think you're ready now for your crib. Your cousin, Jackson, is due any day now and we could not be more excited! So thrilled for all of our holiday adventures this season :)
