Baby on Board!

Yay! Well, because Kimi, Janelle, and my sister-in-law Nikki were all so encouraging, I've finally started to create our baby blog. We found out we were expecting on October 1 and I just knew I was pregnant because my breasts were so tender. I tried to wake up my hubby and tell him, but he wasn't convinced until we had taken one of the "expensive" pregnancy test. I had ordered numerous of the cheap ones online. We were just so unbelievably shocked that it had worked the first time. There is always that fear that it could take a long time or that you and your parnter just aren't compatible in that way. That night I had to tell someone so we agreed that we each got one person to call. I immediately called my sister and she didn't pick up her phone. I knew she was in the midwest, so I tried calling her hubby Joe. Thank goodness he answered, but he could hardly hear me since they were at a NFL football game (go figure!) He wasn't with her at the moment, so after waiting for what seemed like forever for him to track her down, he finally put her on. I was crying and Katie started crying too. It felt so good to tell someone. I never realized how scared I would be in addition to feeling excited. Luke was so supportive and actually handled the news better than I did.
We decided to wait a couple of weeks to tell friends and non-immediate family members just so we could enjoy the feeling of euphoria it gave us. I was nervous about having a healthy pregnancy and I started spotting, very lightly, around 4 weeks. Many girls spot and go on to have healthy pregnancies, but I was very nervous. I called my doctor and she had me go in for an ultrasound at 6 weeks. Lindsay came with Luke & I which was amazing because not only is she a doctor, but she just had baby Julian in September, so she knew all the right questions to ask. We saw the heartbeat which was a good sign. However, a couple of weeks later we found out that I had a subchorionic hemorrage at the bottom of the placenta where a small pool of blood was collecting. At least we had an explanation for the spotting but I had to go on "pelvic rest" for the next 6 weeks. Because of the hemorrage, I went in for another ultrasound in the high-risk lab at 11 weeks. My mom, Tarren (and her 6 month old, Ava), and Nikki came with us. It was amazing how clear the ultrasound was, we could see everything! I am now 16 weeks (yay!) and the hemorrage has completely healed. As far as we know, we are expecting a baby girl. The doctor tells me to wait until my 18th week ultrasound to buy anything girly, but easier said than done. I am feeling great (there are times when I even forget that I'm pregnant). I got sick a couple times in my 7th week, but just ate my way through it :)
I am so fortunate to have so many close girlfriends who have babies and who are so wonderful to talk to whenever I have questions or just need some encouragement. Luke and I are really excited to be at this point in life where we are experiencing this huge transition. He is finally solid in his career and we are both confident that we know our goals in life (albeit the paths to getting there will probably change a hundred times). We are watching our friends in their transitions as well, gradually becoming parents & career-oriented individuals and accepting all of the responsibilities & emotions (positive and negative) of "growing-up".
I am trying to post more preggo pictures, so hopefully I'll get some up this week. Some days I feel like I am totally showing and then other days I feel that I don't really look that pregnant. I am anticipating feeling our little one in my belly, but I guess I have to wait a couple more weeks. I love hearing my mom's pregnancy stories of caring TWO 8 pound babies. She is such an inspiration and her stories always crack me up. I am SO excited (still scared too) about expecting our first little one!
